I want to buy a new computer and use it for home use (e-mail, download, files), word processing. Any other advice would be appreciated.

AMD is just another company that makes transformers. It's like Ford vs. Chevy. If both cars.

AMD are cheaper in general, because they are less known, but I heard they work a lot, if not better than Intel.

I would not for a 64-bit Intel or AMD to qualify for the moment. Driver support sucks the addition of resources on devices can not work. Case there is no Adobe PDF printer driver, not PDF files (no work to create for shit), do not work must demon MS Office document format image file. My TV card or not is not what the support in the near everywhere.

What is the quality of both is very nice to drive, even though a provider of Intel, I'd say AMD has a slight advantage over Intel MHz speed, although the current AMD chips is slower than Intel. AMD is certainly cheaper and the players seem to love, because they usually easier to overclock.
